Dev Log #3 - Dev Thoughts
In-person Meet & Works!
As we slowly organise ourselves back together to finish off the last parts of our game, I’ve gathered some thoughts from the team so far! In the meantime we have started meeting up in person again.
Our first in person meeting in a few months! We had CJ, Gyles, Prie and I yay, we got to playtest Gemini.
Our second in-person meeting last month! We had CJ, Gyles, Lynn (our lovely marketing queen), Prie, Will and I! We got to square away more Leo playtesting with some further improvements to the level design and discussed some very fun things for our next showcase later in the year.
Game Thoughts
“I’m really excited to have our demo ready for October so that we can see the final art style of the game. We had some amazing ideas cooking earlier this year that I would love to see come to fruition like telescopes, being able to go back to rooms, redesigns of some levels like Taurus. While life sometimes gets in our way, nothing brings me more happiness than coming together with the team to discuss, play and work together.
For Ecliptic, my biggest standout is how we have woven the story into everything. I love environmental storytelling and some of the new concept art for assets and rooms have been honed into that. The only thing I don’t like about Ecliptic at the moment, is super minimal; I should probably do something about the grass walls in Taurus before my partner blows up his laptop trying to playtest for me.
I think by October I really want to see all of our efforts coming together to create something amazing and fresh for our audience. Seeing the final art, Gemini ready to go, playtested to near completion and then I think I might just take a long deep breath of relief. Ultimately, just being around people who are excited for indie games, new people interacting with our game and meeting old friends again is going to make that weekend just even more special.” - TJ 🐸
“I’m hoping to see the concept art for the rooms CJ made come into the game.” - Will
“Current thoughts are that I couldn’t be more excited to continue the 3D art process as I can’t wait to see it all come together! What’s standing out to me right now is the textures on some of the models in the game, I think in the past year I’ve improved my texturing workflow and could create nicer looking, better textures in half the time. I do absolutely love the way the colours pop in each scene, the high saturation with the space skybox looks gorgeous. I think by October I’d like to have the new designs for each room to be finalised using the new art style approach in the style guide.” - Ben
“I feel like I love the game and we are headed in a good direction. Just of course we need to put work into it to make it even more beautiful than it already is. I hope that by October we have it aesthetically upgraded a little although it’s honestly already f***ing amazing 🥺❤️❤️” - Celest
“I'm stressed at the time, I'm pulled in every direction, and I think the nerve at the bottom of my canine has become exposed because I've been grinding my teeth in my sleep; but there's where else I'd rather be than trying to make this game a reality with my friends. I just love the passion that we've put in it, and I'm excited as hell to yap about mythology to everyone else. Its been a hectic minute, but we're still alive ❤️” - Prie
